Smoko. A miner from Kawa Ijen enjoying a well deserved break
The weighing station. This is the final destination for the miners to bring the sulphur.
The fumarole. The miners direct the flow of gases through iron pipes to the edge of the fumarole so the sulphur will condense where it can easily (easy being a relative term) be collected. It makes a nice photo, but the workers have to go close to those gas clouds.
The ascent from the abyss. Miners carry their loads up the trail that leads out of the Ijen crater. It takes about 4 hours to carry one load out of the crater. The fog contains a high concentration of sulphur dioxide which doesn't make breathing any easier.
